Using the Photo Browser

Mail uses a handy tool called the  Photo Browser.  This allows you to access all your pictures in iPhoto without having to open the iPhoto application making it really easy to send a picture in an email, or using it in one of the special templates that come with Mail

Note that Pages and iWeb also have this capability through a feature called Media

2 - Click on the Photo Browser to open it.

7 - Close the Photo Browser by clicking on the Browser icon.

9 - Click on Actual Size, to reveal a small menu.  Choose the size you want to send by clicking on it.  If you want your recipient to be able to print a nice 8x10, send the Actual Size.  If you expect them to just view it on their computer, Small or Medium will be quite adequate.

1 - Open Mail and click on New Message.

4 - I choose Photos, but you can also use the blue slider or the arrows (4a) to reveal any hidden albums, and click on a specific album.

6 - Now select a picture, you should see it is highlighted.  As you click to select it, hold your clicker down and slide the pointer over the New Message, then release.  This drags a copy of the picture into the email.

5 - Use this slider to move along until you see the specific picture you want to insert into your email.

3 - All your pictures and albums will show in a separate window called the Photo Browser.  It can be moved to any location on your desktop convenient to you to still see your email.

When the drop is completed, the picture will fill the screen, the faded look is because it is highlighted.  It will be gone as soon as you begin to fill out the email address and subject line.   If you want to send a message with the picture, after typing in the subject line, click the tab key, then start typing in the message area. the picture will move, staying below the writing.

8 - At the bottom left, the size of the picture and the email together are shown.
