Rules
Rules
Sometimes you get emails you really don’t want and they miss the junk mail box. Or maybe you get so many email “forwards” that you want to send them to a separate folder. Lets look at how to set up a Rule.
1 - Click on “Mail” in the top left hand corner. A drop down menu shows up.
2 - Select “Preferences”.
3 - Click on the “Rules” icon along the top.
5 - Click Add Rule.
6 - Give the rule a name, if you can’t think of a name, Rule # 2 will do, but if you do too many of them, you won’t remember which one is which, making it harder to change a rule.
4 - The left pane shows the Rules you have. Apple put on there already.
7 - Click on the tab Any Recipient. A long list of options show up. Select the one that fits the rule you want to make.
8 - Notice that some of the choices will show your current email’s information.
9 - Now make a choice here. Say I want to delete all mail coming from a specific address. I would choose “is equal to” and then check to make sure that the email address listed is the one I want to delete.
10 - Now click on Move Message to make a choice. If you are choosing to delete, (11) you are done, Click OK. (12)
13 - Maybe you just want to move the message to a folder. You first need to create it. They are called Mailboxes in Mail. In your Mail VIewer Window, click the plus sign at the bottom right, and choose New Mailbox.
14 - Type a name, and click OK.
15 - Now you can select the new mailbox.
For instance, selecting From, the email address of the email I had just been looking at shows here.
16 - And click OK.
17 - Click Apply, and you are done.
