iMovie - importing from Camera
iMovie - importing from Camera
You can also select the Import Window manually. Click on File, select Import from Camera.
Using the cables provided, connect your camera to your computer. iMovie should recognize it and open an Import Window. Features shown in the window will depend on the type of camera you have.
9 - Analyze for stabilization after Import.
This is a great feature. If the video was taken without a tripod, or on a boat, there will likely be some camera shake, making the video harder to watch.
This feature will fix the shake and, where not possible, give you squiggly lines.
Doing the whole import takes a lot of time, (several hours for a 1/2 hour tape) and requires a lot of processing space. Might be better to uncheck the box. Select the video clips you want to make part of the final movie and Stabilize them instead. See more on Stabilization here.
10 - Click Import.
8 - If you want to add video to an existing event, click Add to existing Event.
2 - Click Manual if you want to select individual clips. You will then see a check box under each clip (not shown here) allowing you to select only the clips you want to import.
If your camera is tape based, be sure to rewind the tape first. (I forgot, and wondered why nothing was importing.)
1 - Click Import all to import all the clips.
If you have a flash memory camera, the import window will show the individual clips. The radio button (a) is set at Automatic.
11 - Click Done to close the window when importing is finished.
4 - Click Import.
3 - Then click Import Checked.
5 - Video is stored as “Events”. Assuming this is the first time you are importing, select “Create new Event”.
6 - Type a new name for your Event, maybe it was a vacation, boat trip, or birthday party. Can’t think of an appropriate name? Just use today’s date (already highlighted), you can change the name later.
7 - The box: “Split days into new Events” is checked in our sample. If you are importing video taken over several days that is part of the same trip or other event, you may want to uncheck the box.
12 - The movie import will now be listed in the Event Library.
13 - Many Digital Cameras now take video clips as well. Movie clips made with your digital camera are automatically listed in the Event Library under iPhoto Videos.
