iMovie - add Motion effect to pictures in your movie.
iMovie - add Motion effect to pictures in your movie.
Want to give it movement?
Add the Ken Burns effect to the image.
6 - Select the picture in the Project Library. Move your pointer over the beginning to show the Action pop-up menu, then click on it.
7 - Select Cropping, Ken Burns & Rotation.
You can add pictures to your movie. Set the amount of time they show, and even add motion, using the Ken Burns effect.
2 - Select a picture and drag it into the Project Library just as you would a video clip.
3 - You can make it easier to find your pictures by putting a check mark in the box to show a range of dates close to the time the video was made.
4 - To change the length of time a picture is shown, double click on it to open the Inspector.
When the picture has been dropped into the Project Library, it will look like a short video clip. The example on the right has six copies of the picture. This designates the amount of time the picture is shown. By default, it will be shown for four seconds.
5 - Change the time by clicking on the box beside Duration. (a) Then click Done. (b)
8 - The Ken Burns feature should already be selected.
9 - Click on “Start” in the top left-hand corner. Notice that the picture is slightly cropped already. This is where the movement will begin.
This tool works similar to the Crop tool. For the Ken Burns effect you have to designate a starting frame, and an ending frame. The sense of motion comes from the movement of one frame to the other. The direction of motion is indicted by the arrow in the middle.
11 - Now click on End. The End position will be highlighted. For this example we started with a full shot, and want to end with a close up.
1 - Click on the camera icon to view pictures in iPhoto.
10 - You can change the position of the viewing area, just click and hold on the picture to drag the viewing area up or down, or place your pointer over a corner to make the viewing area smaller.
11a - In my example on the right, the End area is within the Start viewing area. Drag a corner of the area to change the size.
Note: To move the full viewing area, you may need to move the Start area a bit so that you can click on the End area behind it. Then drag the end area into position. Remember to move the Start area back to where you had it.
12 - To inspect you work in the Viewer, click on the clip in the Project Library, and press the space bar to start it.
13 - When you are finished, click Done.
Check your work again in the Viewer. If you are not satisfied, go back to step #6 and make the changes you want.
I hope these steps help you get started. Please email me about anything that is not clearly stated.
14 - Click the “X” to close the Camera window.
