Now that you have movie clips in the Event Library, you’ll want to select some for your project.

3 - To select a video clip for your project, click once on a clip.  One click will highlight a four second segment.   Drag this to the Project Library

2 - Move your pointer across a video thumbnail in the browser, (don’t press down).  This is called “skimming”. You can see the video in the Viewer at the  top right.

To play one of the thumbnails, press the space bar and the video will play in the viewer.

Note: Drag this pointer to see more or less frames per thumbnail.

When ready, drag the clip to the Project Library.  (see Step 3)  Continue this process until you have selected all the clips you want to use in your movie.

1 - To see the video clips you just imported,  click on the title in the Event Library

4 - To select more than four seconds,  click on one of the ends and drag it  sideways along the clip.

This is a great time to edit out sections you don’t want in your project.  Instead of just dragging whole clips, first review each clip by playing it in the Viewer.

5 -  Move your pointer to the beginning of a clip, and press the space bar to play the section in the Viewer.

6 - Adjust the start or end of the section to edit out unwanted parts by dragging the side of the highlighted box.

You can easily insert clips at any point within another clip.

7 - Click on the clip you want to insert, drag it to the Project Library, “skim” across the clip in the area you want to place it until you find the exact spot to drop it.  I dragged my sample to the middle of the first clip.

8 - When you drop the clip, a menu opens.  Select Insert.

Note: - Double clicking on a clip opens the Inspector. Click here for more information.inspector8.html

9 -  Click on the clip, and drag the sides of the highlighted area to include only the section you want to delete.   Then hit the Delete Key.

Want to delete part of a clip from your Project?

You may want to split a clip.

10 -  Follow step # 9 to select the section you want to split from the rest of the clip, then click on Edit in the Menu Bar to show the drop-down menu, and select Split Clip.

Before split.

After split is done.

I split a clip just for fun. I wanted to speed up a clip, but slow down part of it in the middle somewhere.  The best way was to split the clip into three separate clips.

11 - Now click on the Inspector, to open the Clip Inspector and change the speed. (11a)

12 - After making your changes, click Done.

Note: You can change more clips while the Inspector is open.  Just click on the next clip you want to change instead of clicking on Done.

Note:  All movie clips are stored in the Event Library, if your have a large hard drive you could have many hours of movies stored there. If your space is limited, once you have finished with a movie project, delete the unused footage, or move it to another hard drive for archiving.   If you record on tapes, consider keeping them, rather than keeping the data on your hard drive.
