3 - Click “Import All” in the bottom right hand corner of the window.  The Pictures will be placed in the “Library”.  You will  see them first in the  “Last Import” Folder.   We’ll get to that soon.

Plug your Digital Camera into any open USB port using the cord provided. If you have not opened iPhoto, that’s OK.  iPhoto will open automatically.

4 - If you did not delete the pictures in the camera the last time you downloaded them, iPhoto will alert you that there are duplicates about to be imported.  A window opens to show the duplicate.  If you don’t want any duplicates imported, put a check-mark in the box beside “Apply to all duplicates” (4a), then click “Don’t Import” (4b).

6 - Note:  When the small triangle beside a name points towards the right, the folders or albums are hidden.  To view the listings under Recent, click once on the triangle so it points down.

5 - As soon as the import is finished, the pictures will show in ”Last Import”. iPhoto will start scanning the pictures for faces and record the information internally. It may be hard to see on the picture on the right, but there will be a circle twirling around beside the “Faces” folder under the Library until the process is completed.  (5a)

Importing Pictures from a

Digital Camera.

Just bought a new camera and want to use iPhoto?   In most cases, there is no need to use the CD that came with the camera.

Although these steps are generic, they should work for most cameras.

  1. -Some cameras will turn on automatically when connected to the computer.  Others have to be turned on.

  2. -Some cameras just show up as a Drive, similar to a Thumb Drive.  If this is the case, drag the drive overtop the iPhoto icon in the Dock and let go.  iPhoto will open.   If necessary, also review the steps to import pictures from a Thumb Drive

Note: - When the small triangle beside a name points towards the right, the folders or albums are hidden. If necessary, to view the listings under Devices, click once on the triangle so it points down.

2 - You can name the event you took the pictures of right now, or do it later.   For instance, I could call this “road trip”, or use the name of the location.

1 - Your camera will be listed under “Devices” on the left.  Small icons of your pictures will be shown in the right pane.
