Importing Photos from a CD

homehttp://www.hughsmac.com

1 -  Put the CD into the drive.  An icon will show up on the desk top.  Drag the icon overtop of the iPhoto icon in the dock  and let go.   This is called “Drag and Drop”.

8 - Think you may have put the pictures into iPhoto already?  If a duplicate is about to be imported, iPhoto will alert you.  A window opens to show the duplicate.  If you don’t want any duplicates imported, put a check-mark in the box beside “Apply to all duplicates”, then click “Don’t Import”.

3 - Click on the word “Shopdata” (or similar word on yours), all icons in that area will be selected. (Notice the yellow band around them.)  Press your “Delete” key.  The items will be deleted.

2 - iPhoto will open up if it is not already open and start importing the pictures,

placing the pictures in the Library and show them in a folder called  “Last Import”.

4 - Repeat step #3 for the Duplicates.

5 - Only one set of Pictures should remain.

Option: If you often have CD’s prepared by an outlet,  as would be the case if you were using a film camera, you can avoid deleting the extra files by importing the pictures this way:

6 -  Double click the CD icon. A window opens.

7 - Locate the folder named “Pictures”.   Now drag and drop this folder  into “iPhoto”.  (See step #1)

9 - As soon as the import is completed, iPhoto will start scanning the pictures for faces and record the information internally. It may be hard to see on the picture on the right, but there will be a circle twirling around beside the “Faces” folder under the Library. For more about “Faces” click here.faces.html
Close this page and go back to iPhoto /09 Basics.

Note: If the CD was created by a popular photo developing outlet, iPhoto may import not just the original images, but also a second set, or even shop data that you do not need.   See the example on the right.

If this is the case, you can remove the Shop data and the extra set.
