Cropping a Photo
Cropping a Photo
2 - Select a picture to edit by clicking on it once. It should have a yellow band around it.
3 - Click on “Edit”.
1 - To edit a picture in the main Photo Library, click on Photos.
The edit mode has a lot of features that are best explored by experimentation.
Now we see the edit commands along the bottom of the window.
Made a change and don’t like the result?
7 - When you have repositioned the outline to crop out the section you do not want, click Apply.
5 - Click on a corner of the outline, hold and drag it towards the centre of the picture. Notice the four lines splitting the picture into nine squares. These lines are there to help you use the “Rule of Thirds” for better composition.
8 - Click “Done” when you have finished editing the picture.
9 - Want to do away with the changes and have the original version back? Click on “Photos” in the Menu Bar, then click on “Revert to Original”. (9a)
10 - A small window pops up asking you if you are sure, click “OK”.
4 - Click on Crop. You will then see an outline smaller than the actual photo.
6 - Click in the box beside Constrain to place a check-mark and keep the relative size from changing.
Here is another example: I used this picture in my steps on adding words to a photo using Pages. After saving the results back to iPhoto, it had a line across the top.
11 - I selected the picture and clicked Edit.
14 - and clicked Apply.
13 - Then I dragged the corners of the outline to so the lines lined up with the edges of the picture.
15 - Notice the result, the white line at the top is gone. Click done to save the changes.
12 - Then I clicked Crop to show the outline.
