Faces
Faces
Faces is a great new feature in iPhoto. If you have never used iPhoto before, or if you are upgrading from an earlier version, these steps should help you get started. At least, I hope so.
No matter how you import your pictures, as soon as the import is completed, iPhoto will start scanning the pictures for faces and record the information internally. It may be hard to see on the picture on the right, but there will be a circle twirling around beside the “Faces” folder under the Library.
Please wait for this operation to finish. It could take a few seconds, or it could take more time, depending on the number of photos being imported. Several hundred pictures will take several minutes. Time to go for coffee.
Once completed, you are ready to use the Faces feature.
1 - Begin by clicking on “Photos”. Or click on an Album you have created.
4 - Move your pointer over “Unknown Face” and click once.
2 - Click once on a photo of someone you know.
3 - Click on “Name” at the bottom left of the pane.
6 - Click on “Done” at the bottom right of the pane.
5 - When you see the words “type name”, type the name of the person.
7 - Now Click on “Faces” in the “Library”.
Tip: If you are ready to set up more faces right away, click an arrow key to go to the next photo. Click “Done” when you have finished.
8 - You will see a snapshot of the face you named. Double-click on the snapshot.
Tip: - You can toggle between viewing the full picture, and just the face being considered. Click on either icon above the word “View” to switch views. This may be helpful in some cases when siblings look similar.
10 - Click on “Confirm Name”.
The first view of the other pictures you see is of the whole photograph.
11 - Click on “Confirm” under the first picture. The name will show up. If correct, you are done. Go to the next picture. If not correct, click again to show “not ......”
12 - When you are finished confirming all the pictures, click “Done”, bottom right of the pane.
At this point, more choices may come up, depending on the size of your photo library. Repeat the steps as needed to confirm or reject all pictures.
The view changes to show just the face being matched, making it easier to check accuracy in photos with more people in it.
9 - You will see pictures that iPhoto “thinks” have correct matches.
