Instructions for Using Magic Jack
Instructions for Using Magic Jack
1 - To use Magic Jack, the first thing to do is to plug the unit into an available USB port. Use the small extension cable they supply if you have a tight fit with other things plugged in.
7 - You should now see the window with the dial pad. You can either use your keyboard to dial, or, if you have a phone connected, you can just pick up the phone and make a call.
3 - The first is an icon of a drive that looks like any other USB Thumb Drive. Do NOT open this drive.
5 - The third is an active window which you will use.
6 - As stated on the window, move your pointer over the Magic Jack icon, and double click on it. (Click twice fairly fast.)
Note: The first time you use Magic Jack, you may get this window asking if you want to accept incoming network connections, click Allow.
I wrote this page for a friend. Hope you find it useful as well.
Magic Jack is a great application that allows you to use your regular telephone with your computer. Very economical. Hope they don’t mind me writing this page to help some folks start using it.
Once the unit is plugged in, you should see three new items on your desktop.
4 - The second is an icon that looks like the Magic Jack unit that you plugged into the computer.
2 - Secondly, plug in a telephone set. You can also skip this and use the sound and mic available on your computer. However, there may be feed back issues as the computer’s mic will pick up the speakers. So at the minimum, a headset would be a good choice. (This goes for using Skype as well.)
8 - If using the computer, be sure to click Send to start, and End to finish a call.
9 - If you do not want to leave the phone application running, as would be the case with a laptop if you want to put it away, click Quit.
10 - Then click Yes to finish. This should close all three things items mentioned in steps 3 - 7.
You can also copy and paste a phone number into the number bar right from the address book.
10 - Then click Yes to finish. This should close all three things items mentioned in steps 3 - 7.
11 - First of all, click on the MagicJack application name on the top left of the menu bar.
By default, Magic Jack is set up to be used with a telephone plugged into the unit. If you want to use it with your laptop, or desktop computer, you must change some settings.
12 - A small drop-down menu appears. Click on Preferences.
13 - Note that the settings are for using a Telephone.
Hey, you can even change the volume of the microphone (input) or the speaker (output).
14 - To use the computer’s Mic and Speaker, or a headset, click on the Headset/Other box. The checkmark should move from Telephone to Headset.
Most likely you will not have to make a change to the settings for Microphone or Speaker even if you plug a headset into the jack output jack on your laptop or desktop computer.
