Safari Tips - Tabs

Misc Homeintro.html

Click on the tab you want to have in a separate window and drag it off the window, letting go of it on the desktop and it will open up in a separate window.

Got too many windows open at a time?  A good way to keeping track is to use Tabs instead of opening each web page in a separate window.

Do you normally use a Home Page?  You can set  Safari’s Preferences  so that your Home Page opens when you start up Safari, but not on each subsequent tab.

1- The first thing to do is show the Tab Bar in Safari’s open windows.  So click on View, and select Show Tab Bar

1

2 - In the example below, notice there is now space below the Bookmarks Bar.  The website displayed is show here as a Tab.

3 - To open another webpage, but keep this one open as well, click on the Plus sign at the right hand side of the web page.

4 - Type a website URL into the address bar.

8 - Select General in the Toolbar.

9 - Click on the tab beside New tabs open with: and choose how you want to open the tab.

I change mine sometimes, using either an Empty Page, or the Top Sites.

Note:  If you can’t see the plus sign, (3) the window may be too far to the right and that part of the window is off the screen.  To correct this,  click on the Green (+)Button at the top left side of the Toolbar.  That will center  the window on the desktop.

When you open the second (or more) web page, it will open in the same window, you will see a short name for the site in the tab.   Move easily between pages, by clicking on a different tab.

Want to view two windows side by side instead of as tabs?

Have two windows open?  Drag the tab like we just did, but instead of dropping it on the desktop, drop it on the tab bar of another open window.
